After meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed door on Friday, February 23, 2018, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. John Odigie-Oyegun, wrote a concise response to Mr. Asiwaju Tinubu’s letter titled, “ACTIONS AND CONDUCT WEAKENING THE PARTY FROM WITHIN.”
In Tinubu’s belligerent letter dated February 21, 2018, he attacked the national chairman of his party, Mr. Odigie-Oyegun. In the letter, Tinubu wrote: “Disappointment greeted me when I discovered that you had swiftly acted in contravention of the spirit of our discussions. Instead of being a bulwark of support as promised, you positioned yourself in active opposition to the goal of resuscitating the progressive and democratic nature of APC.”
However, in Mr. Odigie-Oyegun’s acknowledgement letter dated February 23, 2018, he assured Mr. Tinubu of his “fullest support.” Again, he subtly avoided being drawn into unnecessary fight with a member of his own party in the pages of daily newspapers and televisions.
Meanwhile, in what appears to be a salient rebuke of Mr. Asiwaju Tinubu, the entire members of Adamawa State House of Assembly passed a vote of confidence on Oyegun and the national leadership of the All progressives Congress (APC) led by Mr. Odigie-Oyegun.
During their solidarity visit to the Chairman in the APC national headquarters in Abuja, the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa said:
“It is a great pleasure for us members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly to be in your midst to deliver our solidarity message. There is a tendency to have divisions and criticisms amongst ourselves at this crucial time. But most of the criticisms are not constructive and they hold no weight.
“That is why today we are here to register and show our appreciation and support to our state executive, the governor of Adamawa state and the national executive of our great party led by our national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.”
Once again, it seems the APC National Chairman has successfully defused the hostility towards him through his calm and well calculated response to Mr. Tinubu’s latest letter to him.
